Back To School

As children are heading back to school, please do not share too much information about their kids on social media.

Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and all other platforms seem to be filled with images of young students who are ready to embark on a new academic year.

The posts often include the child's name and age, as well as their school and teacher's name. They also list the child's favorite interests and activities, plus what profession they'd like to pursue when they grow up.

Please keep your child's safety in mind when you use First Day of School signs that are often used as props for photos posted on social media. The goal, said police, is not to share too much information with what they described as potential predators.

AVOID any personal information such as their full name, grade, age, teacher's name, school name, and other distinctive characteristics Keep it simple. Make it memorable. Keep our children safe!"

School Bus Safety: Let's all be extra cautious around school buses. Remember, when the stop sign is out and the red lights are flashing, it's the law to stop in both directions.

Pedestrian Safety: Kids will be walking to school, so drivers, please be on the lookout for young pedestrians at crosswalks and intersections. And to our students, always use crosswalks and obey traffic signals.

Stranger Danger: Talk to your kids about staying safe around strangers. Remind them to never talk to or accept anything from strangers, and to always tell a trusted adult if something doesn't feel right.

Cyber Safety: For older students with smartphones and devices, it's important to remind them about responsible online behavior and the potential risks of sharing personal information.

Our children's wellbeing is of the utmost importance. I count on each of you to prioritize their safety as the new school year begins. Together, we can keep our community's students protected.
